Breaking Rental Agreement

  • The agreemant was signed in front of a handyman- his name and number are on it. I was given an agreement before which I went over and told to amend as I have pets and the lease said no pets. The original did have a break claues- I have a copy. hen I was given the amended I checked the 'pets allowed' as I said that was the only error but he sneaked in a few other changes- that being one. He is a horrible man; he has let himself in without notice yet claims it was I said there was an urgent waterleak. He has been told to only email me- as he told me not to call him and email only I said the same applied. He did not email and as I don't answer the phone if I see his number he claims he tried to hold of me but then let himself in when I was out and he took £20. I reported to the police but they were useless and said it is civil as he owns the place. He is very controlling and has been in the Mail for assualt- I found this out after moving in. He shouts at me and when I told him he is not allowed in on his own he said I am mental and paranoid. Previous tenants have had problems with him where he lied on the inventory but as he has let himself when I am out I will state that should he try to rip me off. I have a copy of the 2 leases first and then the amended signed one if you'd like to see them.
    Thankyou for reading.

ASK him, don't tell! You are dependant on the LL's goodwill as you are legally tied in by a contract.

Don't do anything to antagonise him. Do everything to sweet-talk him. As I said, offer to cover his costs. He's much more likely to make genuine efforts to find a new tenant. Rub him up the wrong way and he might just go through the motions and leave you liable for the rent.

    haha yeh right!

sweet talk nothing. If you lose your job and have no money then tough luck on the landlord.
