If you feel that your car is reliable enough to risk going DIY then do so, depending on what car it is it might be worth the gamble, but DIY servicing will without doubt void warranty.
only on sevicable items though. my focus has only ever had one service at the main dealers, ive always done the servicing myself. i bought it brand new.
it needed 2 repairs under warranty, wipers failed and passenger window failed, both done free under warranty without service history ever being mentioned, even although i had missed a service at the dealers and done it myself, so its not without doubt.:p...work permit granted!0 -
As said above keep the book stamped till the warranty runs out.
You may live to regret it.Google gives you answers use it.........0 -

The dealerships computeer only contains info of work carried out at main dealerships. In normal circumstances if you are booked in for warranty work and the dealership computer states you have missed a service interval they would then ask to see your maintenance book as the dealership has to satisy the manufacturer that the warranty requirements have not been breached. It is in the dealerships best interest to do this as if the manufacturer decides to not pay the costs of the repair then the dealership is left with the bill.....0 -

well thats reg vardys problem. they fixed both seperate faults on seperate occasions and on both occasions they never asked for any service book and repaired both times....work permit granted!0 -
O.K. Its a Skoda (with VW behind them they now come high in the reliabiltity charts) and the service charge is £134.00. I'm going for it but only to maintain the warranty. The service consists of. Pick up and return car (for free so cost is same if I delivered the car) change engine oil, change oil filter, reset compter to stop it reminding me to do the service. Thats it! (Apart from the computer bit that I have never had to do before) I could do this myself without a seconds hesitation and probably for less than £30 spent on genuine parts. So for me I'm paying £100.00 to g'tee the warranty. For the last 5 years my 16 year old peugeot cost me an average of £180 a year for maintanence including MOT and a one off timing belt change (and water pump while the belt was off) that was done by my local garage because they gave me a six month warranty on it and timing belts frighten me. So new or old the cost is not much different or maybe I was lucky. Well, like the fortune I have donated to the RAC over the years and never used, I realy think this warranty has a very low probability of being used but then again I insured my house every year without fail 36 years now and never a claim. Just part of life.0

I worked at a Dealership for many years and unless something has changed you are not obliged to have your servicing done at the manufacturers dealership, however whoever does the service has to obtain the manufacturers service sheet as proof that the vehicle had been serviced in accordance to the specification. Also as the cars have a paintwork/corrosion warranty the dealer have to carry this out or the paintwork/corrosion warranty will be invalid.
What you have got to remember here is if a dealership does the service and finds a problem they will carry the repair out under warranty, if FRED IN A SHED does it the chances are it will probably not be found.
For the sake of £134 I would say its a no brainer. You are entitled to a copy of the worksheet after it has been done and chances are you will probably get the car washed and vac'd as well.0
