A ride on the cable car up Ben Nevis, hire a boat just for an hour on a Loch.
Worth checking whats happening on Ben Nevis when your there, the last time I went in September it was the Mountain Bike Championships and Fort William was heaving.0 -
I took my boys there when they were 7 and 5. There's a small castle ruin near the station which filled in a litle time.
The cable car ride. If you post something in the postbox at the top, it gets franked with a stamp saying "posted in Britain's highest postbox" or something like that. That tickled them!
We took a ferry over to the Isle of Mull and visited Tobemory or Balamory as your little ones will probably know it.
Drove down to Oban and went to the seal sanctury and a huge castle but the name escapes me. They'll probably love the seals - so cute!
Went on a seafari near Oban. http://www.seafari.co.uk/ It was excellent fun and we really enjoyed it.
Did the Fort William to Mallaig steam train run, but that was more for my benefit than theirs
We had a rainy day and found a shop in Fort William where you can paint your own crockery and they glaze it and fire it you. The boys really enjoyed that and I've still got the plates they made hanging on the wall. Lovely keepsake.
It's a beautiful area. Hope you have a good holiday.Here I go again on my own....0 -
Thank you - now really looking forward to our holidays. Not sure if they will remember balamory but will buy a dvd to watch on the way up!
We are also going in September so will check?
Thanks again x0 -
We went to Glen Coe last year. A lovely place to visit is the Highland Wildlife Park. It is about 1 hours drive from Fort William but was a great day out.0

I've remember the name of the castle! It was Inverary which is a little further south of Oban.

Thanks Mammy, Becles and others.
We're staying up near Fort William in August with DD's who will be 8 & 6 by then.
Our plan is:
(1) Mull - Iona and Bala/Tobermory
(2) Skye & Dunvegan Castle and maybe a visit on the way back to Eilean Donan Castle
(3) Loch Ness
(4) Landmark Forest Adventure Park in Carrbridge.
Next to work out whether I drive up the day before and B&B it. Then Mrs V and the 2 kids fly up the next day on a cheap Ryanair/Sleazyjet flight because it's Kent to Fort William! :eek:The man without a signature.0 -
May be a bit of a journey but you can pay to go out and feed the free range range reindeer on the slopes at the Cairngorms. We did this with a 10 year old last year and he absolutely loved it.0
