update - the engineer came and inspected the damage. he agrees the casing normally gets damaged when dropped especially if the tv is as heavy as mine. he checked the board and yes there is a crack. at my request i switched on the tv and it came on. then went off as was the case when the first engineer inspected it. By doing this the 3rd engineer can confirm the tv works but due to the crack goes off again as it was when inspected initally and no further damage was done.

good news is that they are going to repair it. i say good news because it is a normal screen, 4:3 ratio i think, and not widescreen 16:9. my initally worry was if they were to replace it with a standard tv there is nothing but cheap brands on the market.

do you advice in me writing a letter complaining that due to slackness of the first engineer i feel that i have been accused of fraud if that is the right word for it. should i seek compensation??
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

I feel taht you have been hard done by, and I would certainly put something to the insurance company. It may not do much for you now, but it may help others in the future.
Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!
