help please re council charges!!

just received a letter from wescot debt collection telling me that i owe bradford council £83 for removal of a wasps nest 22.06.09 i have never had a wasps nest and have never been visited or written to by pest control. i contacted wescot but they said they had no information for it just the name and amount. HELP! WHAT DO I DO??

Definately contact the council - ask for either the debtors/accounts receivable team and explain the situation. I work for my local council in the finance dept and I know that any invoice will have details on as to what it is for etc, at a minimum they will know the name of the person who raised the invoice, then at least you will have a specific person to speak to.
Having said that I would say it definately sounds fake if you've had nothing like that done. I wouldnt pay it unless they can provide a real explaination as to what its for, when the work was done etc and you actually remember what it was!!
