i think ive done something wrong, have deleted limewire and was going to reinstall but when i do it says it cant as it requires java 1.6. i have max os x 10.4
i dont know what i can download in order for this to work> any ideas?

The latest version of Java that Apple supplies is 1.5:
http://developer.apple.com/java/download/
(There is a version of 1.6 available but it's only for 64-bit Macs running OSX 10.5, which you don't have)
So you're stuck, basically. I'd recommend switching to Frostwire, which is basically the same as Limewire but without all the spyware; it only needs Java 1.5:
