Buying a laptop in the US

I’m looking at buying a new laptop, and hope to buy a Sony VAIO
My dilemma is, do I buy one now in the UK – or do I wait a couple of months when I am in the States and buy one there?
The advantage is for an equivalent machine you pay the same in dollars as we do in pounds. This is a significant saving.
What are the disadvantages?
Does anyone know if Sony offer a worldwide warranty?
Thanks, in advance, for any help

I'm sure you'll get better replies for others so just a quicky response, yes world warrenties apply, but when I was in the states last year there was very little difference in the price. I was under the same impression as you about Dollars for Pounds. I was after an Ipod touch, there was no difference in price and mobiles were even more expensive! You'll also probably need a US to UK adapter plug for conecting to the mains.
Perhaps check a few stores in the area you are going for price before you get there. Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

As well as needing a UK adaptor, best to check the PSU can handle 240 volts.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

US keyboards are different.
If you get stopped by customs on the way back, you'll have to pay duty and VAT. Well, you should pay it anyway if you're honest.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Don't forget US sales tax and any import duties you have to pay. The price you see advertised on the net (or anywhere else for that matter) is generally not the price you'll pay in store.
Quite often, the savings aren't actually very significant.0 -
What movies will you be watching on the 7hr flight? Non, you don't have a laptop yet.0
