If you like natural beauty spots, you have to go to the Gap of Dunloe.
Gorgeous views halfway up, cheap teashop as well.
Dingle is gorgeous, You can see Fungi the local Dolphin, boats run regularly out of the harbour. It was about £3 each and I was sceptical about seeing him, the boat owner said we could have a refund if we didnt see him. We did of course, he leapt up out of the water, spinning and turning for the whole time. Really cool to see.
Inch is a gorgeous beach, Ryans Daughter was filmed there.
B/B is cheap in Killarney if you havent booked and not bad in Dingle, we stayed in the Black Horse in Dingle. Beautiful brand new accomodation and the breakfast was divine. Full Irish breakfast after eating fresh fruits. Followed by fresh Irish soda bread and a huge basket of scones and homemade jam which we had them wrap up and take for lunch.
    £19 was 3 years ago.

We've just come back from limerick and loved it.

Were looking at kerry for next year.

A good base is Killarney (or alternatively Kenmare) if you want to spend all nights in one place. Definitely hire a car or you won't be able to see very much. From Killarney or Kenmare you can easily do the following:

    - Killarney National Park (Gap of Dunloe), Torc Waterfall, Ross Castle, Muckross Abbey.
    - Ring of Kerry (a long day-trip)
    - Ring of Dingle (another long day-trip)

If you want, you can easily make it to Blarney Castle and the Cork area if you want to get over that way too.

Hi travelbug are you in for a treat !

You don't say if you have children (which would put a different slant on things ) but if it is purely a scenic holiday then your first visit must include the world famous Ring of Kerry ( approx 100 miles of breathtaking beauty )That takes care of one day .

Another day would be Dingle Peninsula ... make sure you go through Connor Pass. Fabulous ! Dingle town is a lovely quaint little place .

My third day would be Beara Peninsula (my particular favourite ) ... go through Healy Pass .........wow ! Falling for a Dancer was filmed here .

My fourth day (on a first visit) would be to look around Killarney ..lots to do and see ... you could get a jaunty car and go through the Gap of Dunloe.

If the weather is unfavourable (as if ! ) there are water parks and museums and shops in Killarney and Tralee .

I have stayed in many B and B's and never had a bad one yet but do keep returning to Villa Maria on Aghadoe Heights ....beautiful spot . There are loads of B and B's around but perhaps I could suggest following the Killorglin Road and look for the sign left for Gap of Dunloe ... load of places tucked away ....

    Ideas for drives out :

    car rental .......

    enjoy!

You do not need to book before you go, we risked it, were given a long weekend surprise break when we were staying with family in Waterford.
We went to a call box in Killarney and rang the first place in the book.
The lady refused to take our money until we had stayed all night and eaten in case we werent happy. Made us tea cakes and scones when we arrived.
Quaint place with weird stuffed animals on the walls in the dining room. The whole thing cost with another massive breakfast. €24 about £16 for two of us.
I went on the horse and trap at the Gap of Dunloe and got off half way, we thought it was really off, it is such a steep climb and the horse kept stumbling.
Whatever you do, dont stay at the purple heather cottage actually there, looks beautiful, but the smell of horse manure quite pungent. You will so love the hole place and dont forget to just sit in a pub in killarney, great music and Guiness.

I love Southern Ireland, we have been to Kerry a few times, if you do the Ring of Kerry there is Valencia Island which is actually joined by a bridge to the mainland.

I love Kenmare, Tralee, Dingle etc we have B & B'd all over Ireland without ever booking even in August and needing 2 rooms so don't worry about getting in somewhere. I have some B & B guides which I picked up from the Holiday Show but I am sure the Tourist Information Centre in Killarney will supply them either when you get them or by post before you go.

I want to go now:beer: have a great time...( Have a Guinness for me)
