well look at it 2 ways if your carpet is a cheap and nasty i wouldn't hit it with a steam cleaner as could destroy it, the wet option is going to envolve chemicals there for running costs. the down side to alot of these steam ones is from what ive seen it looks like it will take a while longer to do. do you have any ones your thinking of? e.g. links?0

I've been looking at the bissell PowerWash ProHeat0

Bissells are FAB FAB FAB. I have the Bissell Quickwash and its ace - my friend borrowed it last week and could not believe how easy it was to use and how much dirt it took out of the carpets. Before getting it i used to hire a Rug Doctor but wouldn't touch them again. Look on the bissell website as they have offers on and also look in the Reconditioned section as you can get some real bargains and still get some warrenty.A home is not a home ..... without a dog0

I have a steam cleaner, thought my carpets would never be dirty again. But it is HARD WORK, and I really do not find it effective on carpets. It is fabulous for hard surfaces, but only ever use it on carpets if there is an urgent stain needs removing. The other problem I found is the steam - it has to go somewhere and we ended up running our dehumidifier for ages! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I have the Bissell ProHeat 2X and it does a good job. Bought it from Ideal World just before Christmas 2008 - was on offer then at £100 less than on Bissell's website!
Great machine, heats the water, 12 rows of bristles, etc. Leaves the carpet almost dry. Also cleans hard floors. It was definitely a "considered purchase" but paid for itself within the first few months.
Makes short work of cleaning up dog sick and gooey, milky baby sick!
New product has 2 year warranty: http://www.bisselldirect.co.uk/product/1046

(I buy the bottles of cleaning formula from Ideal World when they're on offer as, so far, it's been the best value.)#Life isn't about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain #We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us #If you focus on what you have left behind, you will never see what lies ahead - Gusteau/RatatouilleGC 2022: £0/£2,500 total spend0 -
Anyone tried this one

Need to clean a carpet and was thinking of hiring the rug doctor stuff. Not priced recently but seems that this machine might not be much different (from long term memory of previous hiring). Just wondered whether better to invest but obviously on cheaper end of range. If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -
I'd say both! We have one of the cheap Bissell Quickwash models linked to above, ours came from the recon'd section of the Bissell website just over a year ago. It's great, it's lightweight so it's not difficult to carry about and its' straightforward.
Hoover the carpet first, then use it and leave the carpet to dry, it is wetter than the Rug Doctor's that I'd hired previously but we tend to just do sections at a time on a day when it's OK to leave windows etc. open.
I tend to use stardrops in mine rather than the proper fluid and we tend to spray the section of carpet first with stardrops and water and then use the cleaner on it.
We've been carrying out building work for the last year and inside the patio door and front door gets really nasty and it cleans up beautifully with the cheap Bissell.
We have a steam cleaner anyway and it's good for stubborn spot removal - printer ink on the Landlord's cream carpet before we moved.....Piglet

That's the one i've got and i wouldn't be without it now. Don't even bother with the rug doctors - they leave too much residue on the carpets and leave them quite damp. You won't regret buying this machine - but you will be shocked when you empty the dirty water container at the colour of the water - not being rude but even if you have the cleanest house around it will still get dirt out of your carpet. You can buy the solutions online or in argos too.A home is not a home ..... without a dog0

LOL...tell me about it
Building works, a father who won't use a door mat and a usually muddy springer spaniel puppy - the water in ours looks like hot chocolate :rotfl:Piglet

I have been looking at carpet cleaners on and off for ages. I usually hire an industrial cleaner once or twice a year and go through the entire house (well upstairs and the stairs) but also do the car seats.
How well do these products compare with the industrial cleaners? I have 2 kids (daughter who is 9 and I am sure you can imagine what make up is in the carpets )
thanks0
