Skype Fraud

Options
Not sure if this is the place for this post (please feel free to move it).

Tonight at 2:41 my Skype account has been hacked. Between then and 2:51 there were 3 attempts to deposit £50 from my paypal account to Skype (first 2 unsuccessful) and 104 phone calls made from my Skype account to various mobiles in Taiwan.

I have reported the fraud to Paypal, changed my passwords etc for paypal and skype.

I've been unable to find anywhere on Skype to report this instance (but will do).

Has anyone else been hacked? Is there anything else I can/need to do?

Thanks

fs

BTW I last deposited money in Skype in Feb 2007 (£10) and still had £4 of that left as of last week.

Skype currently does not offer live phone support but there are plans to introduce live chat support, gradually in the future.

The only thing that some users have reported minimal success with is in filing a better business bureau complaint even though Skype is not accredited.

    "better business bureau complaint"

Is that similar to the Trading Standards we have in the UK?

Have you run av & malware scans on your computer?

If not first port of call would be to download Malwarebytes (the latest version) from filehippo.com.

Once downloaded open it and update it and then run a full scan and post the log details here so someone can check it.

Thanks I got an automated email to say the email address wasn't being used any longer and to log into my account to report any problems. Once I logged into my account the option to report any problems isn't working so I had to log out and request a new password and say I didn't receive the email to open up a report problem form

Thanks - I will contact them tomorrow. Should I contact trading standards or bbb? (or both??)

You'll be surprised to know that Paypal have decided it's not a fraudulent use and have closed the case. I've now recontacted my credit card provider and they are sending out dispute forms for them to take over the dispute (and hopefully get my money back).

I've run them on both pcs (they're still running) when I get the results I'll post them here.

Thanks to you all for your help - much better than the customer non service I'm getting from Skype and Paypal.

I've sent this thread link to contact/inform them via normal G-mail ( support@skype.net) - it has gone through. Certainly, worth writing to bbb.org.us if no luck, but if you go in to your Paypal account there is

I have had virtually the same problem as you. Around 3am last night someone started using my Skype account to make conference calls to Taiwan mobiles. They managed to credit the maximum of £150 (which was the limit the PayPal had set for Skype per month).

I'm very confident that I haven't been the victim of phishing and my PC's are clean and virus free (I work in IT myself). So, not quite sure how they hacked my account?

I have emailed Skype - they have said they won't refund the fees. My only hope now is that PayPal will.

This is the first time ever I've had any online fraud problems! Bit of an eye opener.
