Distance selling regulations on new mobile phone contract.

Hello all.

I have been reading up DSRs and I am getting alot of conflicting information. I'm hoping some of you more savvy consumers could give me a hand.

I want to cancel a new mobile phone contract/handset upgrade I made via the telephone.

It was for an Iphone from T-Mobile. Despite the very good deal offered, having mulled it I do not want the imprisonment of a two year contract on the tariff offered. I've looked at similar phones for cheaper and would prefer now to go down that route.

The phone was switched on for about 30 seconds but hasn't been used or any calls made/received.

The BBC has a short video advising to phone the company to outline your intentions then to confirm it in writing. It has template letter for goods and services.

Would the above route be the one you would advise?

If so, is simply changing your mind about the tariff and/or handset ample justification for a cancellation, or will they reject me?

The DSRs on services appear to be sketchy, so if anyone has successfully cancelled their mobile contract I would very much appreciate some help.

I have more questions but I'll leave thsoe for later hopefully.

Thanks for now.

Do you not have a 'cooling off' period?

Most new mobile contracts have a set period - often about 14 days where you can cancel the contract.

Might be worth reading your T&Cs to see where you stand.
Just started comping - 1/12/08 - keep your fingers crossed!

TBH, I don't think I even got a proper, exhaustive list of terms sent to me.

As for the cooling off period, I thought the DSRs were the cooling off period i.e. it's not something offered by the network rather an external law in itself.
