What do you cook in your microwave oven?

OH does his 'signature dish' ie the frozen peas, when we have them - I can't get them as nice as he does. I sweat onions etc in it for soups etc. When I make meatballs I put them on a rack and pre-cook them for 4 mins (when the recipe says 'fry them') which is a much lower-fat option (then they have sauce of some sort tipped on them and cooked in the remoska).
I found a wonderful but very fattening recipe for potatoes: I slice some onion and sweat it in a big bowl in MW with a whiff of garlic, then add finely-sliced washed and dried potato slices, layered with dots of butter and then tip in single cream, or double, or milk (not skim, tho) and cook until it's all soft and yummy, stirring gently occasionally. If I have the big oven on I might put it in there just to brown the top, but it's fine without. Could add cheese, and bits of bacon for a whole meal. It is completely delicious. Depending on the type of spud it sometimes turnns into a rich and sticky mess, but always tastes delicious.
Then there's my chicken 'thing':
Slice onion, celery, pepper (whatever you have) and a bit of bacon if you have it. Sweat in MW for a couple of mins.
Add 6oz rice (i use basmati) and 3/4 pt hot stock and squirt of tomato puree. Cover and cook 9 mins without stirring. Add pieces of chopped COOKED chicken, stir, season and cover again and cook another 9 mins. Better if you can then leave it to stand for a minute or two but we're usually too hungry by then. Pretty if scattered with parsley, can also sprinkle cheese on top for very hungry blokes, could add olives with the chicken if you have/like them. serve with OH's delicious frozen peas.
Now if you'd asked me to say quickly I'd have said that since I got the remoska I never use my MW other then for heating milk, but I'd be wrong, wouldn't I !
Ooops - forgot plain rice. I cook it earlier in the day on the hob, then rinse really well with cold water. When we want to eat it I just put it in MW for 3-4 mins and there it is - separate grains, hot, perfect !0 -
I use my micro for
Fish, fish fingers
Bacon
Scrambled eggs
Chicken casseroles or chicken in any sauce
Vegetables incl. potatoes (though use my steamer for larger quantities)
Sauces, custards
Sponge puddings
Cakes
Christmas pudding
Jacket potatoes
Oven chips
Milky coffee!
Also use it for warming up - baked beans, tinned tomatoes, tinned veg, soup etc – and for defrosting of course.
My mw is used constantly and I’m sure there are other things I’ve forgotten. On the other hand, I’ve been managing perfectly well without a hob for the last 2 months.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Thank you for all your replies, interesting.
Microwave ovens are becoming a standard in most kitchens.
Foods that can be cooked in the microwave include rice, pasta, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, potatoes and any pre cooked microwave meals.
Most of us though use the microwave (including me) to reheat dinners or milk to drink.
I have used my microwave to cook bacon, scrambled egg, Jacket potatoes, microwave meals (when on Weightwatchers diet).
Made popcorn for movie nights.
Microwave wheat packs(hot water bottle type things)

I manage to make almost perfect poached eggs in mine! In a cup put a little water in, about a 1/3 of the cup. Then crack an egg into it. 1 1/2 mins om full power approx and hey presto, I then tip it out on to a slotted spoon, let it a drain for a few seconds..yum on toast! This has been trial and error though and now I always use the same cup and know how much water it needs. If you are doing it for the first time, I would not stray to far from the microwave or else you may end up with a eggy mess when it explodes lol!Thankful For My LBM

It shouldn`t do this, what kind of dish are you using? is there any metallic trim on it or even a bit of foil stuck somewhere in the microwave?
