Dead Grannys don't change consumer law!!!!

Hi all, felt I had to come on here and have a little rant for a change.
I've had a rather long day on Customer Services, and 3 times today I've had people trying to return faulty goods without any form of proof of purchase, and the excuse being the recently deceased granny/family friend/mother in law bought it from Argos (apparantly...) and they have no way of getting it.
I have every sympathy for people who have recently lossed loved ones for whatever reason, but i'm afraid sympathy can't be extended to overriding consumer law.
What gets me is often I get people who come to my desk and start telling me the whole sob story before they say what's wrong with the item. When I said that I was sorry for the loss but we do need a proof of purchase and that I can't do anything otherwise, they leave and say "thanks for nothing" - sorry but if I bend the rules for you just because the person who has the receipt died means I would have to bend the rules for everyone even if all their relatives are all alive and bouncing about - and how do you know they bought it at Argos anyway??
So my fellow readers! All I would say is that i'm sorry your relative/friend has died but consumer law doesn't change!!
Rant over, have a nice evening
When i was back at Asda, i was doing OT on the George service desk and a customer tried that on with me saying she wanted a refund on a top she had brought for herself about 3 months ago and she had no proof of purchase and she wanted a refund. I offered her a gift card for only the current value and when i told her that it is now £2 she went loopy saying she paid £35 for it and that she wants her £35 back in cash not a gift card. She then carried on saying that her father had died - so i just looked at her in the face and said 'its not my fault - but you still cant have a cash refund' so i got my manager who actually backed me up for a change and she left after saying several various obscenities regarding my skin color and supposedly sexual orientation!!!! lol:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

Also worth noting that under SOGA only the person who brought the item is entailed to it right no one else so the deceased person. There as many bad customer as there CAs i rekon.0

I used t work in Somerfield and I lost count of how many old dears would bring chicken carcasses and empty cream pots back on Monday saying they had cooked/opened it and found it was 'off' so they had to dispose of it.
Manager could not be bothered with arguing over it so just used to refund them.0 -
I seem to remember someone returning something and giving me a story about how their husband had just died. Quite depressing.
Although, on the cheeky side, I did once see a woman who'd bought a fridge freezer three months earlier and had "only just unwrapped it and it has a massive dent". Just to try, I gave the manufacturer (Daewoo) a call, mentioning that it was three months old, and was astounded to hear "Would she like an exchange or a new door?"Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
My other half works in a shop where she hears all this stuff every day. The most astounding one recently was a woman who tried to return a disintegrating and very old item, claiming it was faulty, and (of course) with no proof of purchase. She swore blind that she bought it in that shop, despite the manager and my OH explaining 'til they were blue in the face that it's not a line they had ever carried!Je suis Charlie.0

I had someone try to return a roll of wall paper without a receipt(not faulty)
"So I did yeh its OK but ill give you a credit note" she goes "ok".
I scan the item nothing on the system I say "sorry this isn't from us". She say "yeah it is you calling me a lier", I state "no but the item not in the system nothing" the thing is nothing gets deleted from the stock database.
This went for about 2min of her accusing me of calling her lier.
On a more somber note did an order for one lady found her details on our system did the order printed it out. Then when i handed the doc for her to check it had her late husband name name on i forgot to check that part. I apologised and changed the details thing is she couldn't be any older mid 30 max. I did feel quite embarrassed.0 -
I did once see in Tesco's reduced bin a Kwik Save item - no doubt someone had induced them to give a refund on it!0

This is a really funny thread. I can't believe the audacity of some people - highly amusing to read though0

I have every sympathy for you.
Just come back from Tesco, getting the OH some Creme Eggs. A man there was having a go at the checkout lady because they'd run out of bags convo went something like
Man: Can I have a bag please?
Checkout Lady: I'm sorry, we're all out of bags tonight I'm afraid.
Man: I NEED a bag (he had 4 items)
C: I'm sorry but we honestly don't have any, we've actually been giving away bags for life free tonight.
M: Why can't I have one of those then
C: We don't have any left, I'm very sorry.
M: How am I going to carry my shopping to the car?
C: If you have trouble, I can get someone to help you.
M: That's no good, how am I supposed to get it out of the car?
At that point I think he gave up speaking to the cashier and was wittering under his breath, I stress he only had about 4 items, a chicken, newpaper and some pet food but he was so rude in how he was talking to the cashier and after he'd paid, he grabbed his shopping and flounced out.
Don't think I could do a job in customer services, I have NO patience!
Have a good rest of the weekend (Hope you're not working OP)

When I worked for ASDA a good few years back a customer called to report that the chicken she had bought was off. So the customer service manager sent me off to deliver a replacement, something I had done for other customers with similar complaints in the past. I get to the customers house knock on the door to have this middle aged woman complain about this chicken and hand me the offending item back in a Tesco carrier bag and yes it was chicken from Tesco.
You should have seen the look on the customer service managers face when I handed over the Tesco meat.0
