I've had a read through the various threads here, and I think I've settled on an 8gb Sansa Clip.
On Amazon there appear to be 2 slightly different models - can anyone tell me if there is anything to choose between them?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Sansa-Clip-Player-Radio/dp/B001GCTR3C/ref=pd_cp_ce_1
My main requirements are memory space and ease of use - they both seem to have their pros and cons as far as the reviews go. I would like to be able to dock it/plug it into my hifi - I assume there will be a way to do this (there was a cable mentioned on another thread)?
And does anyone know of anywhere cheaper - or are these the best prices out there?

I think it may be that the slightly more expensive one has a memory expansion slot for a MicroSD card.
Before taking the plunge, you might want to look at the reviews for the more recent Clip+, as IIRC it is considered to be a bit better.0 -
If memory space is an issue then I'd choose the Clip+, since you can stick a memory card in to expand the memory if required.Stompa0

I have had the earlier 2GB Clip for over a year now and they are great for putting music or podcasts on with a simple drag 'n' drop via USB. The radio is adequate and battery power is good. I'm sure the expandable SD memory would be very useful to swap in and out. If/ when my one eventually dies, I wouldn't hesitate to get another.
The best thing (for me anyway) is that you don't have to bother with flippin' iTunes0 -
Thank you all.
The slightly more expensive one does say it has a memory slot, but quite a few reviews say that on arrival it doesn't. The other one has reviews saying it definitely does.
At the moment I think 8gb will do - I have 4.65gb on the PC hardrive that I'd like to lift (or at least back up) as it's annoying only being able to listen to it in one place, so that's my main priority, with the rest of the space free for later use (possibly audio books for me or the kids).
I think if it comes down to between these two, I am leaning towards the cheaper based on reviews - unless anyone knows different. My budget is around £50 (including any extras like mains chargers) - would the new Clip+ still sit in that area?DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
the first link is now the cheaper one thats the one with the memory card slot
The clip charges from a USB slot it doesnt come with a charger. You can buy for a few pound off amazon a USB mains charger. So worth getting one they are found in amazon as well.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -

Thanks - that's the one I'm leaning towards - found it at the same price on Dixons site - just got to decide which is best - Quidco or Nectar - as there don't seem to be any codes aroundDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -

44.99 for the first one and 48.99 for the clip, 2nd post said the slightly more expensive one had the card slot so I thought the price had dropped since you posted the thread. Amazon have changed prices up and then down with a few hrs before.
But the 44.99 first link sansa is that one to go for.
I got mine cheaper from this dealer about 11months ago, but I recommend the retailer so. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LUPO-1000mA-Charger-Adapter-charges/dp/B000SD4KBE/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_text_c
Works a treat, also can use with any USB charging device. that uses 1000mA or less.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
Another option that might be worth considering is a 2GB Clip+ along with an 8GB Micros SD card - which could probably be got for a few quid less - though of course your future expansion route would be more limited.Stompa0
