Which Firewall for Netbook running XP?

The wife has just bought a Netbook for doing work when out and about and may be accessing public networks for the web.

Are there any effective, free, firewalls that would be simple to use? I presume the XP one will be a bit weak when it is not at home behind the router firewall.

Many thanks for any replies. :)

  • I have the same setup, the PCTools free firewall is very effective and doesnt slow the netbook down too much, warnings are easy to understand and unblocking things you accidently block is easy. Well recommend.

I've used Comodo free for ages with XP, Vista& W7 without any problems whatsoever. XP netbook & PC, 7 laptop.
Choose the free download. When installing there is the option to just use the firewall and not the entire security suite.

There are lots of "warning" popups initially with Comodo but these reduce to virtually nil when it's learnt.
