help re-installing vista

i hope someone can help me... my daughter had a laptop installed with vista . at some stage it froze would not run right and had the blue screen of death, so i tried to do a clean install of vista ,but daughter didnt have a back up disc and i could nor read the product key on bottom of laptop......i found an old disc for windows xp proffessional and installed this on her laptop instead. everything is now fine...
daughter has now decided she wants vista back.......id there anyway i can find the product key for laptop and use a backup disc i have for my laptop?
