Help!! rail travel

Hi,
I dont know if i am posting in the right forum or i am right in doing this.

I need to get to Bridlington from Stoke-On-Trent on the 10th Feburary and i need to be there for 11.00am and return on the same day, leaving Bridlington about 17.30.
The thing is i thought rail travel would be cheaper, i usually drive up and a passenger drives back, but this time i shall be alone and its alot to do in one day, so thought i would go by rail, but the best i can find is £63.00 return and we only usually put £30-£40 max in the car, can anyone get me any lower than that or advise me how to get it lower

Thanks

Splitting your tickets at Sheffield will save a few pounds.

Bridlington to Sheffield, Anytime Return via Hull = £30.70.
Sheffield to Stoke on Trent, Off Peak Return = £27.40.

Leave Bridlington at 07:14 will get you to SOT at 11:06.

18:21 is the last departure from SOT to get you back that evening.

May be possible to get that fare down further by splitting elsewhere.
  • thanks keith, i will be starting at stoke, will it still be the same?

    thanks

    Ooops... sorry about that.

Yes, the fares are the same... or would be if I had got it right the first time. :embarasse

Please totally disregard my previous post and substitute the following...

You can buy the tickets on any rail site - but avoid those that charge fees. Or at the station either on the day if there's time or in advance. The price is the same in any event.
  • There is a catch, if you split tickets at Sheffield you must travel via Sheffield.

Not really a catch... its all explained in the MSE Split Ticketing article.

But I agree... worth noting.

Incidentally, the journeys at the two times I mentioned do go via Sheffield ( and via Hull).
