Ebay item damaged, returned, seller disputes signature on returned special delivery

Purchased an item on ebay last weekend, received it on Weds and the item was damaged, so not as described. Took photo of damage (1/2 of GPS screen blank) and sent to seller who confirmed it was in working order when shipped and asked for it to be returned so he could claim for damage from Royal Mail. He also agreed to provide refund once returned. Sent item on Thu via next day Special delivery at my expense. Royal Mail tracking showed this was received yesterday morning, seller claims he had no post. Sent copy of proof of deliver with signature and he states this is not his signature, so item has been lost or stolen and that he will contact the police.
I sent the item back to the address he provided. I have asked Royal Mail to investigate as the seller did not sign for item. I also opened a PayPal dispute the day I received the faulty item. I have now escalated this to a claim as I don't think the seller is going to refund.
This is my first problem with an e-bay purchase, is there anything else I should do to get this resolved?

Opn a paypal chargeback and upload your proof of delivery to prove seller has item back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How does a charge back differ from a claim? I'm on a claim at them moment and PayPal are waiting from feedback from seller (up to 10days).0

Apologies, I missed the bit where you said you had opened a claim. In that case make sure paypal know you have signed proof of delivery, phone them if necessary , and they should refund you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks, I've entered into PayPal dispute that proof of delivery has been received, but that the seller states it is not his signature.0

I wouldn't have bothered with the last bit personally, all that matters is that you can prove delivery back to seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Update on this issue;
PayPal decided in my favour and I have received a refund for original cost. Still out of pocket for cost of returning the item, but will have to write that off.
However it does not end there, I've also received a call from the seller assuring me he did not receive the item. He now wants to claim for the item being lost and has suggested I do that or send him my postal receipt, 2 concerns;
1. Now I have my refund I do not want the responsibility of reclaiming his costs and having to refund him if the claim is succesful. Also as the item shows as delivered and signed for I do not expect it will be that easy to get the Royal Mail to pay out.
2. For the seller to claim he needs the original receipt. I am concerned about sending this as it is my only proof I returned the item, so if it goes missing like the item, will he try and come back to me for the money and say I no longer have evidence of sending it (Of course I have copied the reciept but is not the original).
Would like this to just come to an end but the seller is persisting in chasing me. Even though the PayPal transaction is settled.
Any advice?0 -
Just ignore him I wouldn't reply. Anyway any claim via RM would fail as there is a signature anyway0

You could scan the receipts and send them via email?
This is a tricky one, as the seller is now out of pocket through no fault of their own. Technically the sender is supposed to claim for lost parcels, although this is tricky as it has a signature.
Have they checked with neighbours etc...?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
