went last night about 15 minutes before closing, noticed there was a stack of reduced goods with sell by date that day, but most just had a few pence knocked off. i pointed this out to a guy stacking cheese nearby and asked if they would just be throwing the stuff out. he said he wasn't sure but to pick out what i wanted and he'd mark everything down to 20p. this encouraged quite a crowd of people all wanting the same thing for which he happily obliged, and he even told me to check the bread area as most of that was going for 5p....hoorah..came in with a tenner expecting to spend it all on tea and got so much more for just a couple of pounds.
taste the difference sausages x3 down from £2.39, ttd pizza down from £4.49, two pizza express pizzas which were alsmost a fiver full price, covent garden soup x3 down from £1.99, chicken breast strips and dippers down from £3.49 and a huge block of brie....yum....
and i really needed to be saving cash too..brilliant.
and sainsburys are usually fairly stingy on reducing stuff...maybe the staff get to take it home if its not sold?

don't know what sainsbury's policy is but they would have to charge the staff something at least for it
it probably just gets chucked away at the end of the day so it's a win-win situation as you're getting something cheap and they are at least getting some money back for the product
we used to do this where i worked where we put all the fresh stuff going out of date at the end of that day to 10p each just to sell it
in all seriousness it's probably worth asking if you can have stuff like that for next to nothing if it's close to closing time...i'd be very surprised if they turned you down (unless that member of staff had their eye on it)!0 -
My wife works at the Deli and she still has to pay for things. Occasional at knock down prices if some one she know is pricing things down she might get it really cheap.
However recently at Christmas we had a good deal and was put aside not on display and a customer managed to grab hold of it so lost a tasty piece of meat for the misses to have at a knock down price.

I was buying a curry from the Deli and the lovely lady gave me an extra container of the left over sauce. As I am not keen on meat it was brill and free.

My husband is an Instore Baker for Sainsburys and he doesnt get anthing reduced other than what is available to general shoppers. Most of their stuff is chucked at the end of the day. He says 1 of the reasons for this is because if staff could reduce things they would over order so there would be lots to reduce costing Sainsburys loads of £'s, if it gets chucked the cost is less.0

Been laughing at this for the last hour! I've got this vision of the Serengety(sp?) Plains where the lioness has made a kill for the pride only to have a hyena come in and steal the meal!!!0
