I've used redex in the past on both carb and EFi engines...can't say for sure it's made any changes though.

Usually I opt for whipping the intake ducting off and blatting the whole lot with carburettor/brake cleaner. Now THAT shifts the muck and leaves everything gleaming. For gods sakes don't do it on a running/hot engine though..

It also quite happily dissolves mk4 Astra headlamps..:o Ah well, it works ace.

On the old SPi motor I did the throttle body, plate, injector, opened the throttle with a finger and did the throat of the TB , blew out the small bore pipes, cleaned all the cabling and connectors, then wiped it dry, left the cleaner to evaporate and reassembled/regreased everything that needed it.

Never once let me down. Now this new Astra is MPi..fork knows how I do THIS one..:rotfl: Carb cleaner is only a quid or so for a big can. We used ot use it at a mitsubishi dealership..shut the engine off, let it cool, dump half a cup down the intakes and watch it fume for a few minutes cleaning, then start the car and let it draw it through the system..all part of a service.

Redex does nothing in my opinion. Their adverts seem to show one injector smeered with copper slip grease on the outside and another one all shiny.
Quite how it cleans the outside of an injector is beyond me.

If you want to clean out injectors then get them ultrasonically cleaned, but it doesn't do much IMO.

It isn't because after you've done it a few times and its cleaned everything out, pouring Redex down it results in a slight smoking in the exhaust that's barely visible.

Respected engine tuner Bill Blydenstein explained that his cylinder heads made more power after a few thousand miles because of the build up of carbon on the surface.

I've taken quite a few petrol engines apart and never found one that would benefit from "cleaning" internally.

Try shell v power diesel, probably has redex or similar allready mixed in it
  • you definately dont want to use redex in a puma.

The Puma has Nikasil cylinder liners and because of this the Puma handbook it advises against using additives.
  • You should try Omega 992 - "Power Jet" Fuel Injection Cleaner Additive. It's leagues ahead of redex. Works very well.

If you want to clean your injectors remove them and have them done ultrasonically. Otherwise, leave well alone.

Sandpaper or a wire brush is cheaper :D
  • Just use decent fuel, BP is a good choice.
