Please remember that nursing is a 24/7 cover job. Its not a 9-5 job, most jobs are a combination of day night rotation, so child care once you have qualified may well be a problem. Also remember you WILL be expected to work easter, christmas day etc.
Not wanting to put you off, but lots to consider before taking it on as a career. My daughter has gone to university and is going to be a teacher, because at least she will be at home with her kids at christmas.0 -
Have you thought of being a healthcare assistant in a hospital first, I work for the hospital bank agency and it is extremely flexible, it gives you an insight into working on a ward and it allows you to observe what the nurses do and also to observe student nurses and ask them questions, you can then decide what you want to do, it has given me a good insight so far. Hope that helps, I just thought that this way may be an alternative rather than just leaping in, you can also do extra training so you can have more responsibility, in terms of doing dressings, blood monitoring etc. I think I will stick with this route, as watching the nurses has made me realise a few things. I might change my mind but I don't think so somehow, I think I will just do the extra courses in time.0

I'd make sure childcare is sorted first. You will be expected to work weekends, evenings..night shift..and in no particular order if you know what I mean.
Childcare can be difficult to arrange when childminders/after school etc work to suit 9-5, monday-friday workers.
Most people do top up with bank work, but on top of course work it can be a real struggle if you have demands from your family to meet too.
As somebody above has posted some Uni's do have more flexible options for Mum's etc. Worth exploring options.x x x0
