Excel graph

Options
Has anybody seen this or offer help.
I am plotting a graph in Excel which consists of a figure from every Saturday from Jan 1 2005. I have just extended teh x axis to include 2010 and seem to have phantom points appearing.
If the data range is from C6: C268 the plot is fine, if I extend the range to C6: C269 I get extra days appearing in Jan 2009 eg Friday 16th & 23rd and the points ploted on those dates does not seem to be related to the original data eg is not an average.

Thanks

Which way are you using to extend the x-axis ?

Are you just extending in the 'C' column, or including the date column as well ?

I right click to access "source data" "series" and retype the ranges for both data and date axis. I have also extended the date to row 280 but only the change of data from C268 to C269 triggers the phantom points

  • I would usually click on the graph, which then highlights the data range on the spreadsheet.

I'm then able to adjust what values i want the graph to incorporate, and all values are included in the adjustment, as it won't do just one column.

The only other things that springs to mind is if you have any hidden rows for those values, or the inputted values for cells C268 to C629 have some difference to the others, in the context of how the cell is formatted.

Have you tried copying the spreadsheet to another, and seeing if the problem replicates ?

  • Thanks Baby-Mechanic
I tried pasting the values only into another spreadsheet so the data was pure and had the same effect when I set up the graph. Discovered the date range was corrupted.

  • Glad to hear you got it sorted.

Interesting that the date range was corrupted, giving you the phantom graph points, and not your values.
