Renting for the first time, any hints and tips?

We are relocating across the other side of the country, having always bought houses in the past. In view of the distance involved we want to rent for say 6 months whilst we look for a place to buy.
We have never rented before, and don't know anyone to ask personally who has.
Has anyone got any hints/tips/advice please?
Thanks.

Have you checked out the stickies at the top of this forum? They should give you plenty of pointers0

Have a look at the tricks and sly deceits of 'professional' tenants. It helps if you have a wee baby and a women to cry her eyes out in courts, but if you play it right, you should get 6 months in the place and pay maybe 1 months rent.0

Beware posters with agendas and irrelevant information!
In the first instance once I'd had a read of the stickies about renting for tenants and the bit about checking a landlord has consent to let at the top of the page I would ty and familiarise yourself with the areas you might be interested and do some research into properties and rental prices, This can be done before actually traveling there to look at properties. Useful info can be had via the local papers to give you an idea about what neighbourhoods and particular towns and villages are like.0 -
