Housing benefit - self employed-ebay trader

Hello people,

I am currently helping a friend complete a HB claim form, which has come back asking for us to complete an SE2 form - I did send off SE1 and accounts for 08/09 - but I am presuming that they are looking for current picture? would this be since April - Jan - or just last 6 months.

The biggest query I have is "allowable expenses" as a lot of his business comes via ebay are ebay fees/paypal fees allowable expenses - do I show this in the expenditure section but udnher which catergory ?/ Would I put it in the Bank Charges section / or under Advertising?

I just do not want to put it in the wrong section!

Thanks in advance for any clarity.

    Hi there

Difficult to give you the answer you need as a form SE1 or SE2 sounds like an internal form as we don't have any such forms at my place.

If you are s/e, then you need to advertise but if ebay fees are incurred as a cost for you being able to sell your goods, I wouldn't suggest this is advertising but if you put them in any section and send a covering letter explaining your accounts, this may be sufficient.

Best people to ask would be your local council Hb office

Yes, e-bay fees would be allowable expenses.
