Mortgage horror stories anyone???

Just wondering if anyone facing or currently redundant has any horror stories regarding mortgages.
As per advice last year well b4 i was made redundant I informed my lender in the hope that we could arrange some kind of deal . . .during the period that i was unemployed.
I wrote at first and was ingnored for a month until i complained that no one got back to me. I was then given a helpline number which i rang and the only HELP i was offoered involved paying huge amounts on my mortgage in the long term.
I tried to ask them to just change my deal for the period i would be unemployed for BUT they refused quoting some rubbish and the only way I could do that was to pay charges of 4,000 up front to change the deal. I obviously informed them that I was trying to reduce costs not increase them and that I would be more than happy to return to the original deal once i had income comming in but they would have none of it.
Also i was asking about the mortgage holiday as i had earnt 6 months of holiday . . . .they informed me that due to my changes in circumsatnces i was not elligeable to it.
Typical . . I've been with them for 20 years and when i need help the most they give me a wee kick in the teeth.
So much for helping folk.
Anyhow if anyone else has any such stories then please shout. And also could i use the stories on a redundancy website I have setup???
Almost forgot to say my lender is the Halifax

That does not surprise me at all!
What annoys me is that people in, or can foresee financial difficulties, are always encouraged to inform your loan providers as soon as possible.
'Don't bury your head in the sand' - 'don't ignore the bills' they constantly tell people - 'we will help you' they cry, but the OP's posting only confirms that these are crocodile tears.
I have no horror stories myself despite my wife and I being made redundant a few years ago, however, that was not due to the caring attitude of our mortgage provider - just that we were in the fortunate position to pay off our mortgage with some of our redundancy payments - and the Halifax still co**ed that up!
I can sympathise with anyone who needs help from these institutions. I am sure there are people who may have received assistance, but I suspect these are few and far between.0 -
Are you not eligible for SMI?
Did you ask about switching to interest only? If so, what was their reason for declining your request?Gone ... or have I?0 -
