thought i'd have a go at putting the mapping on my 5800 as it's free, but just gone to download the europe map at 2.2GB and was told it would take 13 hrs, left it to do it over night and the damn thing crashed.

thought i'd have another go this morning and get the same duration message, that's crazy!

just wondering if anyone else has the same problem?

I just put Scotland on mine which didn't take long at all - 45mbs or so.

Incidentally, I wouldn't use the new Ovi Suite - it's slow and buggy, but the normal PC Suite with the Nokia Maps Uploader add-on.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Just cancelled and only down loading UK now!

OK, downloaded the UK only, took it out in the car today to test and got a message telling me the licence ran out in Sept 2009. I thought that the Nokia maps drive and walk was free?

It is free. There's a new version of Ovi Maps on the store downloadable from your phone. It also has Lonely Planet, Michellin, Weather etc..

I pity people who paid for the old version.

  • I'm a little confused (and not for the first time lol ;))

I have Maps (within the main menu) and also location (within the Applications folder).

Are either of these what is being discussed here, or something totally different?

I loaded it to my PC and installed it through the PC suite

Ukdangerous, this is the full "sat nav" add on for maps, walking routs, turn by turn navigation etc. It only works on a number of handsets, so check Ovi out to see if yours is on there

I also have the 5800 (XpressMusic).

The Maps application came pre-loaded with the phone.

Having just looked @ the Ovi store, the icon for the Maps application is a compass with 'N' displayed and the compass pointing NW / SE - this icon is also on the application that is on my phone, I was just after clarification that this is the same thing?

    Thanks

Sorry, I did not explain myself clearly. Yes the Maps application does come pre loaded, but did not have the turn by turn real time, the walking routes etc. You had to pay a subscription for that part of the application (after a short free trial)

This is what they are now giving away. The icon is the same, but there will be a new front screen for Maps also after you have loaded it, with the new apps included.

    The list showing is
    My position
    Find places
    Share location
    Favourites
    Drive
    Walk
    Weather
    Events
    Lonely Planet
    Michelin

Hope that is clearer for you :-)

Has anyone installed this on their E71? Just want to confirm it works before downloading.
