Currys Refund

My girlfriend bought me an LG home cinema- DVD player and surround sound speakers and she lovingly set it up for me coming home from work.

The problem is its an older generation model, hence the price, so there is no way of getting virgin cable telly nor xbox 360 in surround sound. It doesnt have the necessary optical inputs nor HDMI sockets.

So really its a bit of a waste of money in that sense.

I want to return it but its been opened. The only grey area is my girlfriend did ask if it would work with my xbox and she was told yes and a cable was added to the sale.

The cable however doesnt give surround sound, it simply transfers stereo to the front two speakers. So its not really surround sound at all.

Do you reckon Ill get a refund.

  • Unfortunatly, I cant see how you can. The TV does work with your Xbox, it shows a picture and it gives out a sound. Unless your partner specifically asked can it work with xbox in surround sound, and they said yes then you may have an argument, but then you have to speak to that sales person and see if they are prepared to tell their manager that they advised a customer wrong.
Im not quite sure how surround sound works, but shouldnt your xbox connect to the surround sound system?
Even if it is opened though arnt you entitled to a full refund before 28 days? All you have to do is re-box it. I would certainly get a refund for the cable.

I think I know which LG it is. You'd still get sound from all speakers but not full 5.1.

Stokeymad, the 28 days is for unopened products only. OP could try and be nice (and box it up as new) and maybe exchange for another one with optical input, but it'd be down to the CSA's discretion.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
