Ebay BANS google payments....further proof they're only after the fees

you all know my stance on paypal, etc

all along i've only said that ebay has banned western union, etc primarily because they don't get any fees, secondary because some ebayers are a bit thick

.......now another potentially incredibly popular payment mechanism comes along...........ebay ban it.........

interestingly, NOCHEX is not permitted on ebay............thats a new one on me.......

This IS bad news

I seriously hope that ebay are pooping their pants though - some UK paypal users are reporting that their paypal purchases are going on their credit cards as CASH ADVANCES - hence incurring large amounts of interest! If the credit cards keep this up paypal is going to get unpopular...

... or is it all a big conspiracy to make us pay with 'secure' cleared funds?

I imagine Google won't be to preturbed - I expect their reall intention is not to go into competiton with paypal but to go head to head with ebay with their own auction site.
Gbay perhaps - a price cutting war on fees could be on the horizon - bring it on ;+)

Am I going slighty strange or are PP nudging me towards a certain action - but I'm sure when I used to pay for my auction purchases I'd set my Paypants account so that my CC was my automatic prerferred payment method.

Now I have to specially select this payment option each time i want to pay and when I do receive a message telling me how much more convenient it would be to debt my bank account instead(?!). I can only assume that CC payments aren't 'convenient' for PP due to the fees involved, even if they are more secure for me because of the fraud guarantee and purchase protection offered when I use mine online.

Anyone else notice this change?

yeah, i posted a topic about that a few weeks ago, really annoys me.

some people like soo don't get the request up, it just defaults to CC. others do though

If you go over £4500 you have to register a DD mandate for "money laundering" procedures to confirm who you are. Now whilst I believe that, that is a requirement, I'm somewhat sceptical about it need ing to be a DD mandate.

Anyway at this stage it always defaults to bank payment, it's so funny, ebay love to stuff you with extortianate fees, but squeal like a piggy when they have to pay them. I love the "it's more secure to pay by bank account" more secure for who? paypoo I think, I would always feel safer using my card.

The way to stop it is to cancel your DD mandate, then it automatically defers to your credit card. It drives paypoo up the wall when they see you cancel the DD. But why on earth would you want paypoo to have DD access to your bank account (unless of course you don't have a card to make a payment)

Exactly what I was going to say!

Here's a thought, by banning google payments, I wonder if Ebay could be taken to a monopoly commission. On a recent £112 gfx card I sold, I got fleeced for insertion fee, completion fee and paypal fee, in total nearly £8! By banning google payments they are ensuring that no other competitive business can be made on payments as well.

I think it wont be long before we'll see google auctions, nearly everyone has a problem in some form with ebay, or just feel angry towards them, google on the other hand at the moment have a good reputation, and are probably about the only company with enough reputation and money to take ebay on in the auctions market.
