Garage complaint!!

Hi,

As part of my breakdown cover, I was appointed sa local garage to come to get my car started. At the time, it wouldn't start so got towed. They kept it for 2 days and charged me £70 for whatever repairs they did, and delivery back to my house.

The problem I have is that I paid the delivery driver the £70 in cash when he dropped it off, and despite 5 phone calls, have not had a receipt or proforma invoice. I want one as I have kept a FSH of the car, and am doubtful that any repairs were carried out.

On the last phone call the owner said I didn't get a receipt due to not paying VAT, and am now so annoyed that I'm considering shopping them to the inland revenue for tax evasion!!

Just wondering what action I could take against them, my breakdown service have said that I am in a contract with the garage and not them for any repairs carried out.

Anyhoo, thanks for any responses!

What do you hope to get by having a receipt?? They may not have actually replaced any parts and the cost may be purely labour. Also the breakdown doesn't really have anything to do with your FSH and I for one wouldn't want to add a receipt for a repair after a breakdown to my cars service history. Its not really related to the cars FSH?

You could try to go down to the garage in person and ask for the receipt if you are that worried about it.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

I'm not sure what you're asking OP. do you need a receipt to claim back from the breakdown service?
or are you disputing that YOU have a contract with the garage, and that it should be the breakdown service who have the contract because they appointed the garage to recover your vehicle on your behalf?
  • I must admit I wouldn't have paid anyone without some sort of invoice, especially in cash, for this sort of work - who told you that the cost would be £70 ? -

tbh I don't think that it is necessary to keep every piece of paper relating to work carried out on the car (might even go against you if it has a recurring problem) but I can understand the frustration of not getting one especially if you've asked for one.
