Anyone else tried to open a Ruffler bond over the last few days and noticed their rates have tanked? I'll need to call them on Monday to find out if they're honouring the rate as it was when I sent my application. Surely they can't lock the money in at a different rate to that which I applied?

Yeah I was considering opening one, but they've dropped them all very quickly, so I've missed the boat.

Just call them and ask on Monday, it depends when they closed off the rate you applied for, and when your application/chq arrived.

However they have excellent customer service, in my experience, so hopefully you'll be ok, and at the very least not locked into a lower rate. There is always a cooling off period anyway.

The rates changed on the 6th, and they received my application (and sent a letter confirming this) on... the 6th. There's no mention of a cooling off period in their T&Cs, and I remember it was explicitly stated as not being applicable for the B&B bond. Ah well, no point worrying - we'll see what Monday brings.

Nothing wrong with Ruffler Bank whatsoever.

They started out financing amusement arcade owners to purchase new machines and also for travelling showmen to fund new rides etc. I work in the business and I can tell you, this company are extremely reputable.

Roy (Ruffler - yes, the CEO is known by his first name to everyone in our industry) is a great bloke and hence his reputation is legendary. He has been the first phone call of many people in our trade wanting to start a business or finance their existing business.

Their rates are very good too!

According to an article in the Southend Echo, Roy Ruffler was banker to JBR Leisure Ltd, the amusement arcade operators. JBR and Ruffler planned to re-develop Southend Pier after it was gutted by fire. I haven't been to Southend for years. Are the pier repairs completed?

  • I opened a couple of accounts with them on the 6th.

Nice people (I went there to check them out).

They are a PLC but their shares are not up for trading on the stock market.

Because they are small they seem to react quickly to rate changes so if you see a good rate you have to go for it quickly.
