Cruise for First Timers

Hi

My DW & me want to go on a Mediterranean cruise at the end of September. We would be grateful for any tips about booking etc.

She doesn't want to have to "dress up" for meals, but it might be nice to have the option if we choose to. :(

All advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Of the UK companies Thomson and Ocean Village have the most relaxed dress codes.

Shop around for booking. Start with High Street then look online. If you aren't too bothered about which ship or the destinations real bargains can be found by booking at last minute.

When i go to town i get stressed out with all the old biddies walking round at half a mile per year 5 wide. When im driving behind a Matiz/Micra/Toyota and an old Bid is driving i get stressed. Why oh why anyone would want to go on a boat with a load of old giffers is beyond me.

Just shows how out of touch you are. The average ages of people cruising has dropped dramatically in the last few years

Average passenger age ranges are as follows:
Carnival: 30 percent under age 35; 40 percent ages 35–55; and 30 percent over age 55
    Celebrity: Ages 30–55
Disney Cruise Line®: 20s and up and of course the kids
    Holland America: 40s to 60s
    Norwegian: 50s
    Princess: Age 50+
    Windstar: Ages 35–55
    Royal Caribbean: 30s to 50s

Have a look at www.cruisecritic.co.uk all the info you would need and they have a forum you can sign up for.

If you go on some cruise forums you will find that people are complaining about the opposite – the large resort ships have huge numbers of young people and families on them

I'm not knocking a cruise - Simply because i haven't been on one.

But i cannot for the life in me understand how two week on a glorified boat can be better than getting stuck into a country, culture and its cuisine.

But you can do that at all the ports you visit. Its not like you are on the ship 24/7.
Where else would you see so many places and cultures in such a short space of time.
Most of the ships I have been on are like floating cities....complete with Ice rinks, excellent shows, cinemas, many restaurants to sut all tastes.
I think you need to reserve judgement until you ACTUALLY GO ON A CRUISE...........

That is why we are thinking of doing one. A chance to see maybe 5 different cities over 7 days. We definitely would not think of travelling to so many cities in a week on a "normal" holiday.
