Mature Student (Scotland) Need Financial and Personal Advice

Hi,

I'm due to start in September at glasgow uni studying dentistry (5 years)

My background:
I have already got (and received funding for) an Honours Degree in Computing Science. I am separated with two kids who I see for two nights a week. I have just (today) sold my marital home and will have 40% of the proceeds of that to finance me. I am getting made redundant (good news for me) so will get about 10K in dunny money. I need to get somewhere to stay that is big enough for me and the the kids when I have them (I'm staying with parents just now).

My understanding is that I'll have to pay £1200 per year in fees (SAAS will make up the extra £500?) and that I'll be entitled to a maintenance loan. As I'm separated my exs income etc. doesn't come into it. Can I claim the Parent learning allowance and give that to my ex? what else can I claim. Anyone know any Glasgow Uni/Scottish specific help I can get? Are there sponsorships/grants. (I'm 33 if that has any bearing on things)

Basically I'm depressed at the comments made by my ex who thinks I'm doing all this as a way out of paying maintenance. I don't think I'd put myself through 5 years of financial hardship just to spite someone especially when my kids are involved. I'm partly doing this for their long term benefit. And I intend to contribute as much as I can afford. I haven't applied for anything yet but have the SAAS form ready to be filled in.

Sorry for the long post but lots on my mind just now.

Mark.
