Paypal - Debit card charged in USD?

Options
(Not sure if this really belongs here!)

Hi
I've just added my new card to paypal. When i've previously purchased stuff from the US, it's charged my debit card in GBP (i.e. paypal do the conversion). But today, its charged my card in USD (this works out more expensive for me). Is there any way of altering the settings so that Paypal does the conversion?

Many Thanks:beer:

    1) Login to PayPal
    2) Under My Account, click "Profile"
    3) Under Financial Information column, click "Pay List"
    4) On Pay List Overview page, click "Set Available Funding Sources"
    5) Under your card(s) that are listed, there is a link "Conversion Options".
    6) There should be two options, choose "Use Paypal's conversion process"
Use PayPal's conversion process to complete my transaction using my card's currency.
Both the original transaction currency and the converted amount that I will be charged are disclosed for my convenience. I understand that MasterCard and Visa have a currency conversion process. I have chosen not to use the MasterCard and Visa currency conversion process, and I will have no recourse against MasterCard and Visa with respect to any matter related to this conversion.

Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice.
I will not know which foreign exchange rate has been applied to this transaction until I receive my card statement from my card issuer. I acknowledge that by choosing this option, my card issuer will determine the foreign exchange rate to apply to this transaction, and that I will not be informed of the foreign exchange rate or any additional foreign exchange fees applied until I am billed by my card issuer.
  • Having just gone through PayPal's website to write the above post, I now realise why one of my USD transactions was billed in GBP! Thanks OP for asking this otherwise I would still be losing out to Paypal (cheaper with my credit card in my case)!

Thanks very much. Unfortunately, when I click on Paylist there's no option for setting available funding source.

So i think i'll just have to contact Paypal!
  • Hmm, I wonder if there's another option. Sometimes when you "Checkout" I've seen an option to choose to use paypal or your own card's conversion. Anyone got any suggestions?
