Which seats-family of 4-long haul?

Hello
We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children 4 and 6 flying lang haul.
Our first flight has a 3-4-3 layout and second 2-4-2
Do we go for 3 together and 1 across asile- so we get a window seat and option to remove and adult or child for time out?
All all 4 in middle?
was thinking of 2 x2, ie seats behind each other for second flight, so kids could sit together/adults together, and change
The flights are no longer on sale on airlines website and we are flying at peak time so expect plane`s to be full.
Looking forward to hol down under, but with a total flight time of 29 1/2 hours plus connections not looking forward to the 4 flights involved.
I must have been mad!
thanks

Personally I'd go for the 3 and then 1 across the aisle for the flight out (only because children tend to love window seats and both adults will have aisle seats. Also, If the plane isn't full, the adult across the aisle may have an empty seat next to them. It also gives the opportunity for the adults to swap if "time out" is required! (on a 24 hour flight, you may thank me!)).
On the way back I'd go for the 2 and then 2 across the aisle for the same reasons.
Your children are old enough to be able to enjoy the in flight entertainment etc to the max, but make sure that you also call the airline and get your kids meals prebooked (and confirm them at check in!).
Hope you get some sleep on the flight!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
It was 2-3-2 when we went to Mexico. Both times we had 2x2 seats behind each other.
It worked well as me and hubby got to sit together for some of the time, and the children played together on the interactive seat back games. When they got bored and started to get picky with each other, we split them up for a while! Here I go again on my own....0 -
It will depend on your airline, but when we last went long haul, families were given 4 seats together at the front of the plane, loads of leg room. Not sure if babies/toddlers would be priority but that may be worth asking your airline for.0

I would say take the four centre seats, partly so that you don't have anyone climbing over you when they want to stretch their legs, and also so that you have your children with you, not disturbing anyone else. (I'm sure your children are impeccably behaved, but it can be excruciating having to sit next to other people's children on a long flight, especially if Mum and Dad aren't right there to control them) You can still split them up if they are bickering, or sit next to your OH, etc. Not much to see out of the window for most of the time!:p
Have a great trip - wish I was going
