Tiscali/talktalk dispute advice needed

I have heard that Tiscali (as they were) are ruthless. I have an elderly friend who lost here husband in 2008. He had Tiscali for internet which she didn't use so I wrote to them to close the account. About 6 months later she received a call saying that if she didn't pay the account of £300 over the phone they would cut her off. This was the first we knew it was the phone line as well. I explained that she needed the phone, her life line and that this bill was extremely high - no amount of persuassion helped as he cut the phone off there and then. BT were brilliant they set her up within a few days with a new phone line. I wrote to Tiscali and heard nothing then a few statements arrived. I contacted Tiscali by phone after sending the Death Certificate and they assured me account was closed. Then after a few months another statement would arrive, another phone call to tell me the account is closed. The same as you none of my letters have been replied to, not one question answered. The next statement we receive I intend to send back with DEAD on the envelope. And we shall then wait and see for a few months. Good luck:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0

Have you escalated it to the complaints department or are you still dealing with CS? Also did they give you a break down of the bill? Line rental might be cheap but if she's been making long phone calls...
Who did she think the line had been with btw? I mean if she didn't think it was Tiscali then who has she been paying?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Sorry Mrs Tine, just logged back into this one - she was paying BT by standing order and had thought that her calls were through them. Of course on looking that was just for the line rental. However, many times I have asked Tiscali for a breakdown and they don't reply or if they do it is a standard letter and questions are left unanswered. She would be quite happy to pay them the whole amount but I am not sure she actually owes it all. The fact that they keep quiet for so long and then just send a statement seems very strange.:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0
