humax foxstat

Options
ok, i have done more research, having originally posted on how to get a freeview plus box.

my research tells me i need a humax foxstat pvr, what none of the sites tell me is if i just need that, as in, it will give me my channels too, or if i need the pvr AND my freesky box to keep getting my channels.
this making sense??

anyone out there have any experience of the humax???

i have sky digibox and use a skysat card to get what i thought were freeview channels, i certainly dont get any sky and i dont pay a subscription. i would like the flexibilty that a plus box gives, mostly on the recording side of things. i am happy with my package just need more info on the humax pvr

The Humax Foxsat, is the best box for the price, you can receive BBC & ITV HD as well as the rest of the Freesat Channels, but also this box can scan for other channels not on Freesat, giving you access to a few other interesting channels such as Shorts (short films channel) and some european channel. It has an excellent menu system, far easier to record or pause live TV than any VCR or DVD recorder. I can not recommend this box enough.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

As above, it's a Humax Foxsat HDR, not FoxsTat. And you can plug it straight into the satellite cable coming from your Sky dish. It has 2 tuners, so doesn't need to plug in to anything else. Well, apart from a screen of course! Please note though, that with satellite (including Sky+), if you want to watch 1 record another, you need to have 2 cables coming from the satellite. Usually when Sky install, they do a single output LNB (the bit in the middle of the dish), but for Sky plus they'll install a quad output LNB. This would allow for 4 cables.
The Foxsat will work just fine with 1 cable, including HD, but you really won't be getting the best out of it. Any satellite/aerial installer will be able to sort out another feed from the dish easily enough for not much money, but you'd need to get a quote for your individual property.

So long as the dish is easily accessible it's a straightforward DIY job as the LNB will be a straight swap and there is no need to disturb the dish alignment. A quad LNB and some satellite coax from eBay costs in the region of £10-15. I've just done this job myself. Can't comment on the Humax box which was the one I chose as I only used it to verify that the LNB was installed correctly so far as we don't move in til next week.

I have the Foxsat HDR it is excellent.

As said ideally you give it 2 connections from the dish, but there are cirtain channel combinations that you can record 2 at the same time or watch one and record another. So I was intending to upgrade to a quad LNB but have not found the need. BBC1 and ITV1 (both Wales flavours) for example can be both recorded at the same time. The box won't let you try to do something it can't.

See http://www.hummy.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=42811#post42811 for a full listing of what you can watch and record with what.

Go Menu, Record, Recorded Programmes, and select your program.
The Humax PVR interface is the best on the market IMHO, so maybe you ought to spend a little more time getting to know it.
