Best Approach To Claiming A Rebate

My partner and I are renting our house privately with the estate agent acting as the property management on the landlord's behalf. On January 14th our boiler broke down and I reported it the following day but we didn't get a visit from the plumber until Tuesday 18th. The estate agent's plumber said he'd have to get a part replaced but was going to suggest to the landlord that it would probably be a better option to get a completely new boiler and that it should only take a couple of days whatever happened.
To cut a long story short, there has been a fair amount of dithering between the estate agent and the landlord and we are still no further forward. Apart from the electric fire in the front room and two small portable heaters that the landlord brought round last week we have now been without heating and hot water for over a fortnight.
We'd like to claim a rebate on our rent to compensate for both the inconvenience and the inevitably high electric bill but we're not sure what the best approach is. If anybody has any knowledge or experience of this sort of situation we'd be grateful for any advice with regard to how much we could realistically demand and the best way to go about it.

I take you will also be offering extra rent then for the fact you will have a newer and more efficient boiler so better facilities and less bills in future?

You won't get any compensation for the inconvenience, but I would be writing a stern letter stating that they need to sort this out immediately (within 7 days), otherwise you will be deducting the cost of having to take showers in your local leisure centre from your rent next month.
