Anyone interested in helping with a redundancy Cooperative

Some time ago I was made redundant and tried to track down rellevant info and also was looking for some sort of support network.
All the sites and organisations I looked at were mainly geared to offering help for a fee.
So I decided to create a social community site where folk could exchange ideas and help each other.
Back last year a few people said they would be very interested in being involved in such an organisation . .helping to give advice and support and the likes. Also sharing their experiences in a more formal way than just a forum.
Would anyone be interested in this again.
The main aim of the organisation that i want to form is to help people help themselves for everyone in the same situ as us. Someone has to do something as I dont think the government is doing sucxh a great job.
I am not putting the site link here as this is against the rules of the forum BUT if you want to help in some way then please give me a shout
thanks
Anthony

If you ask at the job center the should have a list of local places that offer support for free.
As I understand it they don't give this list out you have to ask.0 -
Thats the kind of thing that i am talking about. Little snippets of info like this shared for everyone to see - but also centralised so future folk dont have to search around.
The idea of the coop is also so that folk can feel part of a community and maybe help each other to start again . .or startup new businesses . . or just get their self esteem and confidence back up to par.
Lets face it all of these big cats in the financial and political world are part of some organisation whereby they can watch each other backs . . .so why cant us lesser mortals have the same.
Think the key words you used there are THAT YOU HAVE TO ASK. The majority of folk are just so shell shocked by the situ that they wouldnt think of asking such specifics.
thanks for you comment0 -
Well - for a start-off - you need to add a link to your "homepage" under your MSE name/avatar here - so that people could just click straight through to any website you create for this purpose.
Its easily possible for anyone to click on someone else's "name" here to see if they DO have a "homepage". Some MSE posters/some dont. Most of the ones that do - its duly a blog.
There ARE posters that abuse things a bit by having a link to a homepage that turns out to be a commercial website - but this doesnt sound like it would be that.0 -
Thanks ceridwen have updated my profile with some details including the homepage.
Have a looksee and if interested in helping make this work . .please shout.
Just to add its not 100% ready as am in the process of contacting a whole load of folk, organisations and firm s for help and sponsorship . . . need buy in from the goverment too so am sending local and main government stuff to ask for help0 -
Yep - I clicked on your name and duly noted your homepage link is now there.
Two thoughts:
1. I've just had a quick looksee at it - will go back for more in-depth look later. First impression - I like the overall look of it. I presume you are going to make those bold headings on main page click-through links to the subjects concerned? ....errr....and there are a few typos (ie typing errors) that I think it would be advisable to put right (okay - only a small point - but I think it would be good to do so).
2. The other thought - you might find a bit of useful info. on the "employment" posts on a blog of mine:

I was recently wondering if Claimants Unions are starting to re-surface in the current situation. I think we are at the beginning of this possibly. See a couple of links:

An aspect to the situation that hasnt arisen before is:
- people finding paycuts imposed on them in work (with corresponding reduction in hours). Though the odd few employers are even imposing paycuts and expecting the employees to work the same hours:eek:
- Over recent years a noticeable number of jobs are being turned into 2 part-time jobs before they even "come on the market". Fine if all one wants is a part-time job anyway - but how are full-time workers supposed to manage? (does this mean that a mini-section on your website might possibly be "find the other half of your job" - as in finding another part-time job to top-up a part-time job one already has elsewhere = a full-time job between the two of those part-time jobs).
- I suspect that the Government might cut the number of hours childless people have to work to qualify for WTC to 16 (the same as those with children). Partly because the current system of expecting the childless to work 30 hours minimum at a job - compared to the 16 expected of those with children - is unfair. Partly because a lot of childless full-time employees will (quite rightly) refuse to do jobs that are less than 30 hours per week because there is currently no way to make up the deficit in salary (short of finding another part-time job on top of their basic job). I dont think the Government will want that to continue - as I believe they are basically trying to "ration out" jobs for the unskilled/low-skilled (because there arent enough of them - and the population is STILL increasing at present - ie more jobs required by people).0 -
Thanks for the info . . yep there are typos . . . .the site needs some tweeking but am starting to contact large organisations , government etc right now as need to get the ball rolling.
Next on my task is to
1> Sort out typos of whats currently there . . have some pals looking at it
2> Submitting it to search Engines
3> putting more content in so will be looking at your links for more info.
Would love if you registered with the site and maybe put some info and thoughts in the forum . . .oh yep and tell your friends about it all. The more folk registered will make more of an argument when i approach government officials and the likes . . .
GOD so much to do but think if we have something that people can use it would be well worth it
thanks again0 -

A few of my friends have been asked to do more work for the same pay . . .this has manifested itself in the firms expecting them to work weekends as if they are a normal week . . previously these were always paid at higher rates.
Also one friend in particular was promised a bonus payment on condition that a big contract was successful fulfilled . . it was and now they are saying that he wont get the bonus unless he works every other saturday for a couple of months.
Its shocking whats going on. I can understrand firms having to be more careful BUT this is all very close to the line0 -
Hiya folks,
Just to kinda clarify things.
What I'm after here is folk to help with news articles about redundancies LOCAL to their Area. I'm looking into Scotland, specificaly around the central belt.
Also am looking for people to share ideas . . .any news about new jobs again in your local area.
Also people to tell other folk and especialy firms about it in their local areas - ones that may be heading for a round of redundancies.
Also some help on shaping the coop . . .taking it forward etc
thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
I think this is going to be a bit of a slog but i think it is worth it for folk currently facing redundancy problems and for folk in the future.0
