Dealing with Probate

Hi
I am joint executor on mother's will with my husband. Is anyone able to tell me if we are able to charge expenses for the time/labour costs in dealing with the estate? If the solicitor was dealing with it, they would be able to charge these costs back to the estate.
Many thanks.

This may be covered in the will.
If you appoint a solicitor, yes they can charge their fees to the estate but be aware that this may well be a percentage of the estate plus hourly tates and expenses. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thanks. I dont think its covered in the will. I will certainly check costs with my solicitor before I decide to ask them to assist on any items.0

All costs come from the estate. And yes you are entitled to recover any out of pocket expenses and "reasonable" expenses for dealing with the estate.0

Would any out of pocket expenses include food, inflated loss of earnings (that we cannot prove), and pet kennel charges? My uncle has demanded that we agree to over £5000 worth of expenses incurred over about 4 days, he is acting on behalf of my auntie who is an executor as is my mother.0

I wouldn't accept this level of expenses for 4 days work.
It would have been cheaper to have a solicitor do the work!0 -

Thanks, I know he's put the petrol costs down travelling from south coast to the north west and he's even put £200 a day that it costs him from his job- he's a self employed website owner that advertises B&Bs! It would have been cheaper if we did the work! But communication broke down and took it upon himself to sort the house out and not tell us, he is not even the executor his wife (my aunt) is. We are definately not accepting them, Ive written a thread about it0 -
I have posted on the other thread hun - but from what you say - thats NOT reasonable expenses!
Its a bit confusing having two threads going though!0 -
Hi Liz
An Executor can claim for expenses and time taken, petrol spent but only if all the Executors agree.
I dealt with two ladies last year where one tried to bill for her time spent dealing with the estate and as the other Executrix wouldn't agree she didn't get paid.
IMO your not an Executor to get paid!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck
