When I am being good (and I have fallen off the wagon and need to get back on it), I have an excel spreadsheet and separate accounts to organise me.
Money for all our household expenses go into a joint account.
Money for my personal DDs (mobile phone, contact lens, etc) go into a cardcash account.
The only other money I need to move then is my Next account payment. This will shortly be consolidated with my OD on a Virgin card, so I will set up a DD from the same cardcash account as my other personal bills for that.
So in theory all I need is two SOs out of my account on payday to these accounts and then what's left is my own.
My spreadsheet tells me how much I can have, takes into account any other ad hoc payments and breaks down for me how much I can have a week.
If I'm being super duper good I leave my debit card at home - I find it amazing how I can make that money stretch if I have no fall back available to me.
