Combined postage ?

I have just had a question about combining postage and thought I would get some opinions about it ,
basically the price for postage is £2.50 standard recorded delivery with the option of insurance at £2.50, ( I leave it up to the buyer about the insurance but stress if its over £32 its worth getting )
So if someone purchased two items ( they all weigh roughly the same but arent identical ) how much is fair postage ??
cheers !

Fair postage is what you can work out that allows you to cover your normal packing costs and still send the item securely and properly insured. It isn't really possible for anyone to advise you as to an exact amount and there is no 'standard' combined percentage.
One thing I would say though is that insurance is for you not for the buyer, so don't offer optional insurance for items over £32, make it compulsory. If the buyer doesn't get their item and does a chargeback you will lose, so don't risk it.
Never send anything over £32 unless you send it tracked and insured for the correct amount.

Well if you wrap 2 items together you would save one lot of recorded delivery
fees 68p you could pass this saving on to the customer.0 -
will be interesting to see what paypal does for tracking 2 items in 1 box
technically speaking, if there's only 1 tracking number, the buyer could chargeback for the other item............i.e. buy one get one freemoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

Yes, that's been done before.
If the payment is combined, would it count as one? It would only be a single paypal transaction. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

If I have one paypal payment then I am happy to send in one parcel and insure correctly. I don't discount if a buyer pays in two parts as I sort of assume I need both items available for tracking in case of loss as there is no proof otherwise that you sent two items in one go.

thanks hadn't thought about the tracking side of things, although there is nothing to stop a buyer saying i didnt put one item in let alone two !!
The items I sell are small, but valuable, so I think for combined postage I will make it special delivery only.
What i had intended to do for invoice purposes was change the postage figure on both items so that it totalled the new amount ( an even split ) would this work ok ?
cheers
