Royal mail - again

Options
I've registered with TPS and MPS and they both work beautifully - except that we seem to be getting more and more of those hand delivered letters addressed to 'the occupier' that are delivered by the postman. Surely if I've told them I don't want junk mail, then this would also apply to the junk delivered by hand.

My OH said I should post it all back in the post box so Royal Mail gets swamped with their own rubbish (they can't trace it back as it's addressed to 'the occupier').

A while back I got annoyed about the same thing, and did as your OH suggests. I did it with junk mail addressed to me as well, marking it "not known at this address". I then started to get mail which didn't look like junk until you opened it ! Capital one offers in unmarked brown envelopes that looked like bills.

The only thing, I think, that seems to have stopped it is a couple of years of rate tarting. I don't seem to get much these days, since I stopped being a profitable customer, funnily enough.

I stopped posting it back, after reading about fraud and stuff and chose put it in the shredder.

I agree though, if we all posted it back, the Royal Mail (who are as culpable as the companies that send this cr*p) would cease to send it.

It is not Royal Mail that apply it.... companies that send out the mail are the ones that have to check against their copies of the MPS and filter the details contained in it from mail shots.

I was at a discussion on mailing & DPA the other day and it was suggested that the MPS is actually optional for companies to abide by and not compulsary.. though our legal team were going to check it out.

It's not Royal Mail's rubbish. They are paid by companies to hand deliver "junk mail", which is delivered with your regular post.

It's a buisness and RM get paid for doing the delivering, with no cost to themselves as the Postmen/women are going out on deliveries anyway.

I get leaflets through the door without name or address on....turns out the postman says he has to deliver one to each household (whether he or royal mail get money for it im not sure) hell of an environmental waste as i never look at them but put them straight in the paper bin

My hubby used to be a postman and these are called households. Each postperson gets some for every door they do and they get a minimum amount for each, roughly around 1-3p depending on the size of it. Yes annoying to get, but it does help their wages.

Royal Mail offer this service for businesses. Read this page for more info..

I had the address to write to to get my name taken off the door to door list. Unfortunately, I lost it. However, if you send a message to Customer Services via the website, Royal Mail should tell you the procedure.

Ah the old door-2-door system (aka HDS) ... anybody can pay to get their leaflets delivered through all doors in a particular postcode secotr, region, TV area etc. etc. Its quite an old system and last time I saw it there was definitely no links into any 'exclusion' lists .. although I believe it might be undergoing a redevelopment .. maybe they will include checks with MPS etc.

If you write to the "Delivery Office Manager" at your local Royal Mail delivery office, & state that you do not want to receive these items, a note should be placed in with the Redirection wallets requesting that they are not delivered to your address.

This normally works but there will be the occasional hiccup. Also, we have by law to deliver any materials relating to elections whether there is a request or not.
