Moorcroft debt - Urgent help needed by today

I'm being chased by moorcroft at the moment I owe them £423.71(Current amount owed) I did have £20 a month set up with them but missed 2-3 months due to being unemployed with no benifits(was living off girlfriend and my dad) so I had no money coming in. I have now started work and I tried to arrange new payment with moorcroft on monday this week. I have been told I have to pay half of what I owe by today and the other half on the 22nd of febuary or it would be given to their soliciters so after trying to get them to lower the price I relucently agreed. Can they do this? I was trying to make a new payment plan with them. Also I read on here there is a way to get a settlement figure? How would I do this?
Many thanks

im not the biggest expert here by all means, but i know they can only have what you can afford.
don't talk to them on the phone as they will regularly use bullying tactics (as im sure you've likely experienced?) and write to them by recorded post stating that you will now only correspond in writing.
don't sign it, print your name. DCA's have a history of using peoples signatures to forge documentsDebts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my DebtsOlympic 2012 Challenge #12

Hi
First thing.
Stop speaking to them. Deal with them in writing only because otherwise they bully you.
We really need to know a bit more about this debt - what sort of account and when did you accrue it.
They are breaking the OFT Guidelines by the way - forcing you to pay more than you can afford is not allowed. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I took a loan out with provident(stupid I know but I had no credit history and I was young and nieve) about 3-4 years ago0

thanks to this thread its helped regarding my o/h situation. He had agreed and it was in writting a debt repayment with a debt company for a barclaycard he had, he agreed £15 a month for a %discount, in the meantime the company changed name, and recently o/h was sent a letter telling him they were gonna increase the DD to £20 a month, O/h phoned them and got a total a hole on the phone telling him no discount had been agreed and they were intitled to increase the dd. the a hole got really rude and i told o/h to hang up and cancel the dd, as in any court he will stand up to say he had been paying 15 a month for 3 yrs and paying something, they aint got a leg to stand on. but i will tell my o/h any further correspondance should be by letter.0

Should I not pay the £211 today?0
-
Can you afford £211 today?
If this is going to mean that you cannot aford to pay rent, Ct, utiltiies, or food or work transport, then you cannot aford to pay them this amount.
I am hoping you have not given them your card or account details? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I can't no. Don't worry I'm not that stupid haha :P0

Hi I'm new here - just wanted to say that I've had a couple of debts with Moorcroft over the years and yes they are bullies, but you've just got to be firm that you can't pay them what they want today but that you want to pay them something and then set up an arrangement with them and they will back down and arrange it.
Honestly, I've dealt with quite a few DCA now and they all backdown if you're firm because like someone else has mentioned, they can't just take this money from you when you cannot afford it. They can't leave you in rent or utility arrears. They bully because they have the least rights and they know it - so don't worry, stand firm and you'll be fine - Good LuckDebt Free Day - November 1st 2011 - would be a fantastic Christmas that year ((Fingers crossed I can do it)):D
If we all stood together and threw our problems up in the air - we would rather catch our own again than somebody elses :A0 -
Hi
You need to read the oFT Guidelines, specifically section 2.6.f
http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdf
Then decide what you can afford this month, send that to Moocroft (do you still have the account details from your previous payments/) and write to them telling them how much you will be paying and referrign to the OFT Guidelines section 2.6.f.
Send the letter regsitered post and stop speaking to them on the phone. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thank you for the help. Also I read that there was a way to get a settlement figure because these debt companys would buy these debts for less then amount owed would it work on this?0
