Last night my Skybox stuck on standby and also my wireless router stopped working.

I rang Sky and went through all the rigmarole, turning Sky off at the plug
holding Buttons on the box down etc, etc. Nothing worked so they are sending an engineer on Saturday.

This man said that he didnt know whether the two things going off at the same time were connected,

He then put me through to the Broadband people who said the problems could be connected (sigh). The lady there told me to buy one of them
micro filters because that is probably the problem and to ring back if it doesnt work.

Does anyone else know whether the problems are connected.
I'm not a techie so plain English please.

The good think about it is that i asked if i could have a free service,
he went to ask a supervisor and yes, as ive been a customer now for a lot of years they would do it free. Result !!!!
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Unplug your skybox from the phone socket and then switch the box off and on again.

If the box works then it is something to do with your phone line or micro filter.
If it still does not work then its the box itself thats the problem.

OP, are you saying that you do not already have an ADSL filter on the line connected to your Sky box?
You need an ADSL filter on all active extensions throughout the house, including Sky boxes and fax machines etc.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
