I give my 3 the cheapy ones from Tescos think its a discount brand only 99p for 30...to be honest I have no idea if they work or not yet as we have only just started trying them...all 3 have a good varied diet with lots of fruit and veg but my 2 older boys (12 and 10) dont eat enough oily fish hence the reason I thought I would try them....sorry thats probably no help didnt want to r and r**"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."**0

My gp told me the eye q ones atm are no different to taking bog stand omega 3. While he is an advocate for alternative therapies he believes there has not been enough indepth research to get a clearer picture to whether they make a huge difference. I suppose the change in a child who has a reasonable balanced with an occassional fish meal to a child who eats nothing but junk may be what the drug retailers want to see to promote the product especially as most of these are aimed at children.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

If you do a search on here you'll find a lot of threads around fish oils. For the record I get our (decent quality ) ones from zipvit.com .The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

I woukld invest £7 in the book Bad Science by Ben Goldacre, then save your money. IQ has not been proven to work better than placebo in any clinical trials AFAIK. Won't make em brainy, might help with joint mobility, but so will bog standard cod liver oil.
However, don't take my word for it, I'm not a scientist.
And it's a very entertaining book.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

Omega 3 fish oil is the same whether it is a cheapy from Tesco or an expensive 'super' brand.
And I can thoroughly recommend the book - you'll never look at the adverts for supplements (or some nutritionists) in quite the same light again. And you can get it from Amazon. And it is indeed very entertaining as well.0 -
I was about to post that you'd be better off spending your money on Bad Science but see a couple of people got there first. There's a good forum on the bad science website too.0

Unless a dietician (and I stress a dietician and not a nutritionist) recommends them then a good quality diet with oily fish at least twice a week should do the trick. If your children eat poorly then they may be beneficial but compare doses rather than brands.
Like others have said they don't make children brainy but you can't get fish oil in your diet if you don't eat fish!Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
I'm a GP.
I just gave the kids Bad Science to read instead.0 -

I expect your GP had the Durham schoool 'experiment' in mind.

i have not read bad science, but i will do soon
DS (age 10) aka thing 1 has ADHD with autistic tendencies, and without eye q my life would be hell, it calms him down and helps him concentrate, i have tried, oily fish and using own value brands (4 ovb in fact) but nothing helps as much as eye q, ritalin, just turned him into a zomnie but this lets him be a normal gormless 10 yr old boy:D
i have been trying the other ovb since he was about 5/6 but this i found the best.
it does depend on what you want from it though, i didnt want him to be super concentrated, and brainy, just to have some semblence (sp) of normal life and he gets that with eye q
i also give him and indian head massage eacxh sunday as i do with things 2 & 3, and that seems to help tooIf we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?
