Believe me, the easiest way to connect the PS3 is to stick an ethernet cable from the wireless router to the PS3. It's supposed to be easy to connect the PS3 wirelessly by doing it from the PS3 settings but I tried for two days, and even with advice from this forum couldn't get the PS3 connected.
You don't need your laptop to connect the PS3 so you can still surf while he gets 'pwned' online by 13 year old geeks.0 -
I was trying this last night thats so weird!
Anyway I was trying to connect it wireless it got to the test page the top was was fine it just failed on the bottom one with a DNS error. (80710102) After trying to reset the router last night it still didn't work.
Any Ideas?
I used this video to help me set it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC7aPylbI3M

If you register on http://uk.playstation.com/ their forums have a thread on that particular error. I still couldn't get mine to work though.0 -
This is from the PS3 forums.
To anyone who has been suffering from DNS errors on their PS3 (error code 80710102), you can manually bypass your Internet Service Provider's DNS server and use an alternative one.
In order to set up your PS3 to use the opendns.com server, you must go through the Internet Connection Settings again:
Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings
Select Yes, then Custom
Choose your connection method - Wired or Wireless
If you're Wired, select Auto-Detect for the Ethernet Operation Mode
If you're Wireless, select the security type that your router is using and enter your Wireless Password
IP Address Settings - Automatic and then Do Not Set (DHCP host name)
DNS Settings - Manual and enter the numbers below
Primary DNS 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS 208.67.220.220
MTU - Automatic
Proxy Server - Do Not Use
UPnP - Enable
Then press X to save the settings, and then X again to test the connection. The 'Internet Connection' should now pass, and hopefully there will be no more DNS errors!0 -

Cool
I never even thought to put open dns in the PS3 settings (the only problems ive had are with the NAT type, never actually had a DNS problem):idea:0 -

Apparently, it's mainly Sky Broadband customers who have this problem, although some BT Broadband customers have reported having the same problem.0
