Shutters or Blinds

I have Hilarys coming round soon to replace some vertical blinds i have, that have been destroyed by cats and also they no longer close or run along the rail easily.

Hilarys have a half price sale at the moment still unsure whether to use them or not ,wondering if i should use one of the other blind companies on the internet with good reviews.

Has anyone bought shutters from them ,do you like them were they expensive and do they work on your windows?

I just ordered some vertical blinds from Discount Blind Centre after getting some samples delivered for free. I tried them based on someone who had recommended them on this site.

Not arrived yet, but they were the best price I could see and free delivery. 50% off in Jan, but then they all seem to be offering that.

Yes I have Hilary's blinds, about five years old now but still look good, the price included free fitting, i would buy from them again.

Our blinds are about 5 years old... from Hillarys. Shame they destroyed our conservatory roof in the process and as a result they had to pay £6500 to have it fixed! So, not sure if I would buy from them again. To be honest we found very similar blinds in John Lewis for a fraction of the price! - if you were prepared to fit them yourself. Shutters may help keep the heat in your house a bit better than blinds. Hope you get sorted

If you're having existing blinds replaced, just measure what you already have and buy from an eBay seller. Both myself and my parents have bought from "theblindsworkshop1" on eBay (myself because of the damage done by kittens) and we're very happy with the result.

Hillary's blinds are probably the most expensive you can get - like any company of their type, the half price is half price of their own inflated costs, and they'll no doubt offer you further discounts until you say yes to a price that is still much higher than anywhere else. A friend paid £250 with Hillary's for replacement blinds and believed he had a steal - reality is he could have paid less than £100 for what he got.

I did think about shutters after the damage my cats did, but I couldn't find any where listing prices. However, my cats are now 14 months old and no longer have an interest in climbing, and they also know they shouldn't play with the blinds. I've had the blinds three months now and they still look like new.

Hillary's is owned by one of the biggest aliminium smelters in the world and run on an agency basis. Most agents also fit. The quality is OK but the prices are high, commissions paid based on list price less a discount so if 5-% off it lowers the agents comms structure. There are many companies out there but Iwould use one that actually manufacturers the blinds in house. Then they can put mistakes right. Shutters Hmmn@ lots of light taken away from the room. Only open or closed and bulky. French cottage great, If you think they are expensive, try Conservatory blinfds from Sandersons

We bought our vertical blinds from a local supplier. When we had a problem with them the fitter came and fixed it FOC. Excellent service I thought.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
