would he lose his jsa?

Hi,

My dad moved in with me for a couple of weeks 2 years ago! It is putting a strain on my relationship with my husband.
His girlfriend has offered to take him off my hands but he wont budge as he says that because she works he will lose all of his money and have to be financially dependant on her. Is this the case?

He had a mental breakdown 10 years ago whilst owning his own business and ending up losing his business and was on sickness and incapacity benefit for 5 years.
Eventhough our family knew he still wasnt able to cope with the pressure of a job, he took himself off this and went onto jobseekers allowance and has been trying to get work ever since.
He gets income support jobseekers allowance. He was advised that because he hasnt worked he wont be entitled to anything?

If she earns more than approx £110 per week he will lose his JSA, however he will still be able to sign on for NI Credits.

If he ended his claim for IB five years ago he would now need to claim ESA. This would be income based, so he would lose that also, though he would receive NI Credits without having to sign on.

    Is he fit to work?

Can he move into a flat of his own and claim housing benefit?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

well he thinks he is, but I dont think he will cope. Even a little diy job in the house has him pacing the floors and worrying.

Has he applied for DLA? It sounds like he has care needs. If you are not sure about the forms CAB or Welfare Rights can help you complete them.

It may be that the independence of living alone helps him learn coping mechanisms? I have MH problems and live alone (not sure if by choice or not!), and whilst things are certainly not easy for me, you do learn to manage things.
