Hello Everybody, I purchased a New MacBook Pro around Christmas time and it cost around £1400, So I don't want anything to happen to it. I was hoping that someone could tell me a good insurance dealer which covers Accidental Damage and taking my laptop out the house. I need someone who I can always contact and wont go into administration or close down. Can Anyone Help me??

If you've got home insurance/student belongings insurance, then you could probably cover it under one of those schemes depending on your circumstances.
Otherwise, I would recommend http://computer.insureandgo.com/ myself. I use them for my travel insurance and they have paid out quickly without fuss in the past. I assume it's the same quality service for their computer cover. I input a quick quote for a £1400 laptop and the premium was £90.0 -
I also don't know if it would be cover for accidental damage under my home insurance.0

The insureandgo policy is not all that, the major thing lacking from the policy is that is does not cover you losing the lap top which is a fairly common claim0

Interesting point dacouch. I've never purchased computer insurance but after thinking about it, this website confirms my thought:
http://www.whatprice.co.uk/computers/laptop-insurance.htmlLaptop Loss Cover:
It would appear that almost no provider offers loss cover. It is most likely deemed to be too risky to insure.
It's quite easy to pull a loss claim I think, which is probably why many (the top 3 I just searched on google now) don't provide loss cover. E.g. Get a new laptop, insure if for £100. 10 months later, oops, lost it. A new laptop please?
I only recommended insureandgo as I've been happy with their (travel) insurance in the past and would bet their other products are of similar quality. Seems they provide worldwide cover too, so no problems about taking it out the house.
But please don't take my word for it, check it yourself and compare other insurers before you commit

I disagree, a normal home insurance policy with personal possessions cover would normally include cover for lossing a lap top or any of your other personal possessions. It is a fairly common claim for personal possessions which is probably why the insureandgo policy have excluded it.
You could add a £1400 lap top to most home policies for circa £25 and it may even already be covered.0 -
They may be covered for "theft", "accidental damage" etc but I'm still not sure about "accidental loss" for portable electronics (e.g. iphones, laptops). I actually don't know to be honest but I feel "accidental loss" can be subject to fraudulent claims.
But seems like "accidental damage" is what the OP is most worried about, so covering it with home insurance may be the best option. Ring them up and ask about it.0 -
Losing an item is a key part of the personal possession section of a home policy and claims are fairly common. Typical claims are jewellery being lost, cameras being lost and funnily enough lap tops being lost. A typical claim for losing a lap top is leaving it in a taxi.
The lap top policy you mention only covers theft involving violence or force, a home insurance will normally include theft without violence / force which is fairly common with lap tops eg they hook the lap top and lap top bag from under a table.
Here is the relevant wording from a direct line policy (When they refer to "Loss" it basically means accidently losing it)
A – Loss or damage
We will pay for accidental loss of or damage to personal possessions
and any other item specified in the personal possessions section of the
schedule while that property is within the British Isles.
But not
a) Loss of or damage to:

ii) skis or sub-aqua equipment while it is being used;
iii)cricket bats or squash racquets while they are being used;
iv)property more specifically insured by any other policy; or
v) property held or used for any profession, business
or employment.
b) Loss or damage caused by
i) theft by deception;
ii) theft from an unattended motor vehicle unless the item is
hidden from view within the vehicle and violence and force
is used to get into the vehicle
iii) customs or other officials confiscating or keeping hold of the
items; or
iv)uninsurable risks.
c) Loss or damage by any cause mentioned in paragraph A of
section 2, contents
