Tax allowances 65+

I am trying to claim the higher rate tax allowance ,an earnings limit applies.So I need to calculate my income does building society interest go in as "Net" or Gross"
Revenue form asks for Net but advice from Revenue(by phone) says enter Gross:mad: !!!

    if it has already been taxed at scource then surely it should be net,if not for some reason not taxed then gross
